I submitted my blogs (when previously on Blogger) to a whole bunch of blog directories.

I’m not really interested in the whole blog voting thing — I look at the features, presentation of the directories, and whether they add blogs to their listing in a matter of hours/days, or never at all.

For a list of many other directories not included here, you can check out Tips for New Bloggers’ 3-part article on submitting to blog directories.

Here’s a list of my favored directories, in my humble opinion. Ten thousand blog links and buttons might make the sidebar a bit cluttered.

1. Technorati

Add to Technorati Favorites

If you have to pick ONLY one, I’d suggest this one.

You can “claim” all the blogs you own, and they currently (as of this date) track 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media. You can view stats like the number of blogs that link to yours. You can also invite people to “fave your blog”.

2. BlogCatalog

3. MyBlogLog

my blog log

These two are very similar (BlogCatalog looks prettier / MyBlogLog was first / BlogCatalog lists the range of specific directories you can look through).

They allow you to build “communities” for your blog/s. Being…anti-social individualistic, I haven’t really made full use of these two directories, but if you’d like to build readership, I guess these two are good to have.

They also allow for widgets — you can use them to increase your BlogRank, while getting connected with your readers.

4. Blogs By Category

by category

Very neat. I think the directory is rather new, so direct traffic from the directory might not be a great number. However, I guess it still helps in getting a higher search engine ranking.

5. FuelMyBlog

fuel blog

Seems like one of the more fun and better-run ones. If a visitor likes your blog, they can “fuel your blog” with a vote to increase your ranking within the directory. Again I’ve not made use of it to the max, but oh well.

6. Bloggopaedia

bloggopaedia

Your blog needs to be at least 3 months old. Great-looking button.

7. BF Directory

blog flux

Is this the oldest? Set up in 1999. Many of the blogs in the directories (those that I checked anyway), haven’t been updated in a while.

8. Blogarama

blogarama

I believe this was the first directory I submitted a blog to.

9. Topsites

top sites

Traffic can be good with a nice banner for your blog.

The most annoying about this one is:
a) the bright RED of the button,
b) the button is sized at 90×15, not the standard 80×15 pixels. It gets in the way and sticks out when the rest are 80×15.

10. eBlogzilla

eblogzilla

Hint: Blogs are arranged in alphabetic order.

11. OnToplist.com

toplist

Well-managed and highly functionable.

12. BlogHub

bloghub

I think this one works well, but the design is so unappealing that I can’t stand being there for more than 2 seconds.

13. Dmegs

dmegs

A big and comprehensive human-edited directory.

14. spicypage

spicypage

You can post, comment, and vote. A bit like the website and content discovery service StumbleUpon, just that this one is exclusively for blogs.

Some directories seem to experience a lot more downtime than others — I’ve left those out. When the image links are broken, you get the alt text showing, argh.

Of course you could save the buttons onto your own server…but I’d rather spend the time on content instead.
